Many Sacramento Valley families are still struggling in these difficult economic times. During the “Coats for Kids” drive, businesses, schools, and individuals in the Sacramento areas come together to help struggling families stay warm during the cold winter season.
More than 500,000 coats have been collected in the Sacramento region over the 20-year span of the “Coats for Kids” community drive. This year, PRIDE Industries‘ employees, through our volunteer effort, “PRIDE in Action,” joined the effort along with their families and friends. The goal is to generate 20,000 coat donations from the community for children and adults.
“Being a daughter in a single parent household, there were many times we struggled as kids to stay warm, or with clothes that were too small. Now, as an adult raising five kids, I see just how quickly kids outgrow their winter coats,” said Melanie Lizama, a PRIDE Industries employee and a “PRIDE in Action” volunteer. “It can be really costly to replace coats as kids outgrow them – especially in larger families. By donating a used or new coat, you are bringing warmth and peace of mind to families in need.”
Lizama took the initiative to register PRIDE’s Roseville location as an official drop-off location for the drive, resulting in 75 coat donations for kids of all ages.
“The people of PRIDE Industries have very big hearts. I just knew that they would come together and donate to the drive,” said Lizama. “When I walked by the bins and saw the first batch of coats donated, I was overwhelmed with thinking about how many people would be warm this season thanks to PRIDE Industries’ employees coming together to help the community.”
On Friday, December 28, 2012 from 9:00am to 7:00pm, News10 and the Salvation Army will be distributing coats to struggling families at Cal Expo and various Salvation Army locations, including Roseville, Grass Valley, and Yuba City. Coats are distributed on first-come, first-served basis. Visit here for more information.
In addition to the coat drive, PRIDE in Action is currently collecting gently-used or new household items to help local transitioning veterans get settled in their new homes. Donations can be dropped off at the PRIDE Industries Roseville Headquarters lobby in Roseville, CA. PRIDE in Action is open to PRIDE employees, family members and friends. The group is a platform for individuals to voluntarily be active together in the community while representing PRIDE Industries.
