In 1986, then Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger designated each April as “The Month of the Military Child” recognizing the contribution that the military child makes as their parent – or parents – serve our nation.
The life of a military child is not easy. Frequent moves and family separations through deployments and the inevitable challenges of reintegration are not easy. It is important to remember that the military family sacrifices right along with our troops. They are an inspiration and source of pride for our nation.
For the past four years, PRIDE Industries has been a proud sponsor of the Scholarships for Military Children Program. It is one way of paying back our good fortune for the opportunity to serve our troops while creating employment for people with disabilities on military bases around the country through the AbilityOne Program. Administered by the Fisher House Foundation, The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices made by military families to the readiness of our troops. Since its inception, nearly 7,000 students have been recognized, sharing awards valued at over $10 million.
PRIDE is proud to provide four annual scholarships of $1,500 each through the program to the sons and daughters of our military personnel. Please join us in recognizing all military families this April – the Month of the Military Child.
